STATEMENT
I am drawn to scenes that I personally perceive but that often go unnoticed by others.
These moments register for me as a subtle sense of dissonance—something that appears unexpectedly within the city, not as a clear event, but as a slight disturbance in the atmosphere.
Rather than documenting places or situations, my photographic practice focuses on extraction. I am interested in traces produced through brief human involvement and in spaces that have undergone minimal change. In such moments, meaning hovers in a suspended state, just before it becomes fixed.
I work primarily in monochrome. While this choice reduces visual information, I have come to recognize that it is deeply connected to my long practice of calligraphy, as well as to the visual sensibility shaped by Japanese manga. An attention to line, contrast, rhythm, silence, and the tension created through simplification forms the underlying structure of my photographic language.
My way of seeing was also shaped early on through an encounter with the paintings of René Magritte in a junior high school art textbook. That initial fascination led me toward surrealist art more broadly, including the works of artists such as Salvador Dalí and Giorgio de Chirico. The subtle displacement of reality found in surrealism continues to influence how I approach urban space—as something slightly estranged, where the familiar becomes quietly unstable.
By attending to what lies just beneath perception, I attempt to visualize the emotional residue embedded in everyday urban spaces.
My work exists within the quiet dissonance that arises between what is seen and what is felt.
私は、自分自身には知覚されながらも、他者には見過ごされがちな場面に惹かれています。
そうした瞬間は、私にとって都市の中に不意に現れる微かな違和感として感知されます。それは明確な出来事というよりも、空気の中に生じるわずかな揺らぎのようなものです。
私の写真制作は、場所や状況を記録することではなく、「抽出」に主眼を置いています。
誰かの短い関与によって生じた痕跡や、わずかに変化した空間に関心があります。そこでは、意味が確定する直前の状態が、宙づりのまま漂っています。
私は主にモノクロームで制作しています。視覚情報を削ぎ落とすためであると同時に、近年になって、それが長年続けてきた書道の実践や、日本の漫画によって培われた視覚感覚と深く結びついていることを自覚するようになりました。線やコントラスト、リズム、沈黙、そして簡略化によって生まれる緊張感は、私の写真表現の基盤を成しています。
また、私のものの見方は、中学時代の美術の教科書で出会ったルネ・マグリットの絵画をきっかけに形づくられてきました。その体験からシュルレアリズムに関心を持ち、サルバドール・ダリやジョルジョ・デ・キリコといった作家の作品にも触れるようになりました。日常の現実がわずかにずらされることで生まれる感覚は、都市空間をどこか異化されたものとして捉える、私の視線に今も影響を与えています。
知覚のすぐ下に潜むものに注意を向けることで、私は都市の日常に埋め込まれた感情の余韻を可視化しようとしています。
私の作品は、見えるものと感じられるもののあいだに生じる、静かなずれの中に存在しています。
Biography
Haunts_ (Tetsuya Yuno)
Born in Osaka, based in Tokyo. Graduated from Wakayama University, Faculty of Economics in 2001. Resumed photography upon moving to Tokyo, focusing on themes of solitude and alienation within the urban landscape. Primarily presents work through Instagram, zine production, and participation in photography competitions and exhibitions worldwide.
大阪生まれ、東京在住。2001年、和歌山大学経済学部卒業。東京勤務を機に写真を再学習し、都市風景と同調する孤独や疎外感をテーマに活動を開始。Instagram発表やZINE制作を中心に、国内外のコンテストや展示に参加。
